The William Willats lab is housed in The Section for Plant Glycobiology, which is part of the Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology.

The University of Copenhagen recruited Xiaoyuan Guo and Julia Schückel; hosted for secondment Fanny BuffettoImmacolata Venditto, and António Filipe Gomes Teixeira de Sousa; and provided courses in the network-training event 2 & 3. The Section is fully equipment for cell wall biochemistry including mass spectrometry and chromatography and is uniquely equipped with state-of-the-art robotics equipment for the production of glycan microarrays.

Professor W. Willats (scientist in charge) has been particularly focused on understanding aspects of cell wall evolution and biosynthesis and on developing new high-throughput techniques for cell wall analysis. He has been involved 4 Framework Programme EU projects and has published more than 55 articles and book chapters on cell wall biology.

Associate Professor H. Pedersen is a chemist and has a particular interest in the devolvement of microarrays populated by defined oligosaccharides derived from cell wall components, or chemically synthesised. Using these arrays she has developed methods for the high throughput screening of antibodies, carbohydrate binding modules and carbohydrate active enzymes.
